Meet Your Doula

Hello and welcome! My name is Laurynn Howard. I am a birthkeeper serving families within an hour and a half of my home in South Charlotte, NC. I offer antenatal support through various services including birth and postpartum doula, birth planning, lactation support, and placenta encapsulation. I am happily married to my other half, Colin, and have a sweet daughter, Olive, born at Natural Beginnings Birth Center in Statesville on April 30th, 2023.

The birth of my daughter opened doors in my soul that I didn’t know existed, and in response, I have developed an extreme passion for helping women and their families feel empowered, safe, and nurtured during birth. Whether you have had previous birth trauma, you want to achieve your first homebirth, or you want to birth in the hospital, my goal is to have you leaving your experience feeling powerful, happy, accomplished, and that you had a voice that was heard and respected by your provider. I want to set you and your partner up with the tools to take charge of — and ENJOY — your birth as well as provide a space in which you feel the most loved and comfortable to welcome your newest blessing to the world.
I’m beyond excited to connect with you, hear your story, and find out more about your desires for your birth!
Thank you for being here.

Why Hire a Doula?

The doula is a professional trained in childbirth who provides emotional, physical, and educational support to a mother who is expecting, is experiencing labor, or has recently given birth. Their purpose is to help women have a safe, memorable, and empowering birthing experience.

On top of the emotional support, advocacy, and physical support a doula provides, studies have shown the amazing benefits in these other categories:

-39% less likely to have an unplanned c-section

-89% more likely to start breastfeeding within 6 weeks compared to standard care patients

-48% lower chance of unnecessary labor induction

-31% less likely to use Pitocin to speed up labor

-57.5% decrease in rates of PPD/PPA

-12% less likely to have an epidural

-31% decrease in the risk of being dissatisfied with your birth experience
